Video: BMW i3 parking without a driver
As cars get more and more clever, drivers need to do less and less. Cars can stay inline on the motorway themselves thank to lane assist technogly, they can follow the car in front of you thanks to active cruise control and they can even read roadsigns and understand what is on them. But BMW has now taken the new gadget race to the next level, as seen in this demonstration.
Vali Porcisteanu, a rally driver from Romania, is demonstrating the automatic parking feature by climbing out of the window of the BMW i3. Watch the video to view the result.
So, how does it work?
The system is quite complex, but uses all the systems that are already available on most new cars. Using parking sensors in the front and rear bumper, the electric steering and the automatic transmission, the car can park itself quite easily.
